Ink FAQ

I answered all this stuff on twitter, but I GUESS some people either don't tweet, or don't follow me as closely as they ought to (pfft, losers).

Is this your first tattoo?
Yes.

Holy Shizz Batman, it's huge!
Yeah, well, this is the one I wanted, didn't feel like I needed a practice round first.

So, uh, you like the book?
Obvi.

Are you getting it colored/filled in?
Yes, this was the first of I'd guess at least three sessions, perhaps more. Next appt. is August 22nd.

Color? Shading?
In color, basically true to the illustration, except with more of a night sky, and less cross-hatching.

Did it hurt?
Yes, but not unbearable. Well, except for the parts that were over my shoulder blades which OMG ZOWIE OWIE. Julia tried to tell me that it felt like butterfly kisses. Not surprisingly, she was lying to me.

Who done it?
George Campise.

How long did it take?
I think the actual tattooing, after set-up etc, took a little less than 3 hours (although I could be mistaken).

You're pretty fucking naked.
Yeah, I am. I had a 'privacy screen,' but that didn't really do much when I was facing out with my hands at my sides so George could flesh out the sketch. Especially with Julia taking pictures.

Do you love it?
Yes, yes I do.

I love the work, and think it's great that you went for such an ambitious piece!

myvocabulary July 20, 2009 1:04 PM

Oh. Em. GEEE! I love this! I'm getting a tattoo soon and in the planning stages. I'm guessing right now I'll need to get more than one, because I can't just pick one thing, or one place. Maybe I'll work my way up to a giant one like this.

It rocks though. Awesome.

Swistle August 6, 2009 9:41 AM

I don't think I have ever seen a tattoo that made me want a tattoo more. Wait, does that make sense? I'll restate: Your tattoo makes me want a tattoo very very badly---and it does so more than any tattoo ever has. I love it. LOVE IT.

Also, there is another question to answer, and it's: Are, um, various pain-distracting substances allowed while a tattoo is being done?
