Cookies!

Domestically Challenged

I didn't forget my promise to make cookies with Gabriel, so today was the day. Check out that beautiful mixer, just waiting for us. (And don't clown my apron, I happen to be very fond of it)

We were low on ingredients, so we went with the poor man's cookie: Snickerdoodles. I used 1/3 whole wheat flour, 2/3 all-purpose, to be healthy-like.

I don't have a cookie sheet, so I flipped a cake pan and baked 6 cookies at a time.

I don't have a cooling rack, so I flipped my colander, and used that.

There was a lot of not having, and flipping to compensate.

Ghetto cooling rack

I froze half the dough, all rolled and sugared in ziplocks, so the next time Gabey asks for domesticity on my part I won't have quite so many dishes to do.

We've had a very pleasant evening.

  2. The KitchenAid mixers are awesome. My parents got us one for a wedding present and I'm grateful every time we use it, even though I usually have to watch it.

And let me tell you, my friend, flipping things will save a lot of valuable space, money, and environment. If you ever feel like buying cookie sheets, you should get some jelly roll pans (cookie sheets with short sides all around), so you still have some versatility.

The potential dishes involved with making something definitely informs every thing I cook or encourage my wife to cook, so freezing the dough gets a big thumbs up from me.

  4. We also have that same two tiered metal fruit basket.
I'm starting to think that we have the same kitchen.

  6. Who knew that mixers were so cool and coveted?

I don't have a mixer, and didn't care about that. Now I feel as if I am lacking.

  14. Hey, I love the apron! The way I cook, I need a full bodysuit, but that's so pretty. Oh, yeah, and nice job on using what you have. I have to do the same thing, since I don't have the proper baking utensils. Got some kickass knives but no cooling racks.

    2. Snickerdoodle! You just reminded me that I have a GREAT Snickerdoodle recipe, which is perfect since my daughter has been begging to make cookies for the last few days. Thanks for the reminder! :)
